Colorado is in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States.
The state's capital and largest city is Denver. The Denver-Aurora
metropolitan area, home to 2.5 million people, contains over half of
the state's population. (The bulk of Colorado's population lives
along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in the Front Range
Urban Corridor.) This region is partially protected from prevailing
storms by the high mountains to the west.
Colorado is best described as being cool and dry compared to the
rest of the United States. The climate of the Eastern Plains is one
of low humidity and moderately low precipitation, usually from 10 to
15 inches annually. The area is known for its abundant sunshine and
cool clear nights, which give this area the highest average diurnal
temperature range in the United States.
West of the plains and foothills, the weather of Colorado is much
less uniform. Even places a few miles apart can experience entirely
different weather, depending on the topography of the area.
Generally, the wettest season is in the winter in Western Colorado
while June is the driest month, which is the opposite of the
precipitation patterns in the east.If you are thinking of moving
