VRRROOOOMMMMM.... One of our most experienced real estate agents, Debra Leatham, is also a HUGE racing fan, and every March she camps out over several days at the big NASCAR event in Las Vegas. (Debra and her husband Jim are also avid Corvette enthusiasts, and he built a separate 4 car garage just for his "babies" that rivals anything in the NASCAR pits.) Over 100,000 other racing enthusiasts will also be in attendance, coming from all parts of the world for what is considered NASCAR's best annual competition.

Below is an email Debra sent me yesterday as she got ready for the day's races:

"We headed out on Tuesday with our RV to set up in the Turn1 RV lot.  It is a reserved, dry camping spot and next to the race track.  We have had a spot infield before, but it is too congested and there is no real way to see the race, so you still have to have tickets.

Our family and friends from Northern Utah make the trip down in their RV's as well, so it is a great way to spend quality time with them.

At the Neon Garage you are up close and personal to the racers and their crew as they work on preparing the cars for the race.  We were there on Friday during Sprint Cup practice.  Some favorites photos I took were of Danica Patrick, Clint Bower and local favorite Kyle Busch. (My niece got Sprint cup pole sitter Joey Logano's attention.  He gave her a big hug, but we missed that photo opportunity.)

We are setting up breakfast complete with Bloody Mary's, getting ready for today's Nationwide Race and more practice sessions. Fun! Fun! Fun!"

(Debra neglected to mention that in between she is also jumping on and off her computer to make sure she stays in touch with her clients. I have seen them actually scold her for not taking the time off to totally enjoy herself.)

As for me, I will personally be rooting for Jimmy Johnson, arguably the best race car driver ever. I saw him win in 2010 here in Vegas, and he is my man. I have so much respect for the sport and the stamina and strength, both physically and mentally, since I did the Richard Petty Driving Experience on my 50th birthday (Please don't ask how long ago that birthday was!)

It was both thrilling and terrifying at the same time, and it takes a lot more physical strength than you would think to take the car around those turns at high speed. (Yes, that's me climbing into my race car. They had to get me a booster seat so my feet could reach the pedals.) No doubt about it, race car drivers have to be athletes in peak condition, even real estate agent wanna-be's!
