This year I decided to take a cruise to the Caribbean for my birthday, and I saw some pretty amazing real estate along the way! I thought it would be fun to share some photos of the luxury custom homes I saw overlooking the emerald blue waters surrounding Tortola, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia and St. Barts.

Our first stop was Tortola, and as we were cruising into port, I spotted these hillside island mansions overlooking grottos, sea caves and private beaches that were accessible only by ladders or elevators. After that we took a boat trip over to Jost Van Dyke and the "Soggy Dollar Bar" (home of the infamous Painkiller rum punch). The sand on this beach is absolutely perfect and the best we found on our whole trip. It felt like walking on velvet.

Our second port of call was Antigua. While we were there, we took a 45 minute snorkeling trip to Bird Island. On the way, we passed a number of upscale islands with gorgeous estate homes overlooking small harbors (just big enough for those 200 foot yachts!) and more gorgeous sandy beaches. Most prestigious of these was "Long Island" where many American and international celebrities have vacation homes.

Third on the list was Barbados, where we were able to walk from the cruise ship through the town to the beach. The part of town we walked through was not the best, but they had some gorgeous ocean view homes on other parts of the island. And we totally enjoyed the beach where you can jump on trampolines and swing into the water from the pier or go snorkeling with the turtles.

Unfortunately it rained the day when we were in St. Lucia so we spent most of our time on the ship, venturing out only to walk around the town surrounding the pier. But fortunately we had been there before - we just missed having our day on the beach. The sun didn't come out until just as we were ready to set sail (of course), and we saw a glorious rainbow over the custom homes on the points just outside the harbor.

Last stop, but by FAR my favorite, was the absolutely breathtaking island of St Barts. They have got to have more yachts per capita than any other place in the world. (My favorite was a yacht called "Blind Date" that had a runabout called "Second Date.) The whole island was very upscale, and so were the real estate prices! The list of celebrity homes reads like a who's who of famous people, particularly Americans. David Letterman, Jimmy Buffet and Steve Martin all have gorgeous homes there. (Though Steve Martin currently has his home up for sale at just over $11M.)

All in all it was a wonderful vacation - now I am just wondering how many friends I can get together to buy one of those places on St. Barts! Even an older 1 bedroom condo in the interior goes for upwards of $700k. In the meantime, I will have to make do with the pool in my own backyard in Vegas or find a home on the lake in South Shores at Lake Las Vegas.
