Margaret Kolar REALTOR®
How long do you have to live in southern Nevada to be considered a local? No one knows for sure, but if anyone qualifies, it’s Margaret Kolar. Margaret moved here from the St. Louis area in the early 80’s, and she is always happy to share her in-depth knowledge of our neighborhoods and local lore – a real benefit to buyers and sellers alike.
“I love the real estate business,” states Margaret, “because I have the opportunity to meet so many interesting people from all over the world!” She feels there is nothing more gratifying than helping people through the process of buying or selling their property. “Communication is key to providing great service. I listen carefully to my clients. And I keep them informed about the whole process every step of the way.”
Margaret has been called a serial entrepreneur, and she wouldn’t disagree. She started out in the health care industry, and after earning an MBA, she transitioned into public relations and marketing, eventually opening her own business which provided print and promotional services to the casino industry. Margaret and her husband became interested in real estate investing and devoted several years to buying , rehabbing and “flipping” distressed properties.
Margaret is a graduate of the prestigious Leadership Las Vegas, the Metro Chamber of Commerce’s premier executive development program in Southern Nevada, which brings together a select group of persons in leadership roles, as well as high-potential leaders, from a breadth of industries and local businesses for an intensive 10-month experience where participants enhance their leadership skills, develop new perspectives on the community, and join a network of leaders committed to using their talents and strengths to improve Southern Nevada.
Margaret is past president of the American Marketing Association - Las Vegas chapter. This is the preeminent organization for professional marketers, both academic and practicing, with more than 30,000 members worldwide.
In 2002, a wonderful stray dog that wandered into Margaret’s life became the impetus for a great improvement in the town of Boulder City, the town just outside Las Vegas where Margaret lives. She petitioned the Boulder City Council for a dog park. Because the city coffers were low, the city offered Margaret a challenge: “If you start a non-profit, build an organization, raise the funds, construct and operate a dog park, the City of Boulder City will provide the land.” Margaret says she felt as though she had been sent for the proverbial “witches broom.” But never shy from tackling a challenge, she went to work. Six years later she cut the ribbon at See Spot Run Dog Park!
Margaret lives in a historic home in Boulder City adjacent to the big park downtown. Her household includes a terrific husband - Bob, two English setters, a cat and a desert tortoise – all of them “rescues” . . . except for Bob that is!
Besides an MBA degree, Margaret is a licensed Broker/Salesperson. She has been at Berkshire Hathaway Home services for almost four years, and she has been a member of the Tonnesen Team since 2012.
