Colorado recently changed their state laws to allow residents to legally grow their own marijuana for personal recreational use. And now one enterprising Colorado real estate firm is taking advantage of the laws to form a new specialty - marijuana real estate.
Talk about going green! I just noticed a post from a Colorado web site, MarijuanaRealEstateColorado.com, which is touting their expertise in the alternative field (no pun intended!) of marijuana real estate. They help clients find suitable homes and assist them through the process of converting the property to a legal grow house.
The home page of the site advertises:
"How would you like to cultivate your own personal grow from the convenience of your home while doing it 100% legally, safely, and discreetly?"
They offer to show prospective homeowners how to create a "safe" room in the house using a standard 10x10 bedroom, away from the prying eyes of nosy neighbors, friends and family. They have a list of contractors that can bring the home up to code for air ventilation, electrical capacity, HVAC, mold issues, etc. And they offer an analysis of the surrounding neighborhood for each home, indicating the local acceptance for "growing your own."
It's pretty brilliant. Real estate agents from different cities around Colorado have formed their own marijuana Realtor network. They have created a unique branding and established a marketable niche ahead of the pack for this highly controversial issue. They even have a nifty slogan, inviting participants to join "the Mile High way of life."
What are the implications for the state of Nevada? Nevada has already legalized medical marijuana, and early in 2013 the state established a dispensary system to increase access for citizens covered under the medical marijuana act. According to polls, 56% of Nevadans (who are historically liberal) would favor legalizing cannibis for recreational use if the money raised was used to fund education programs. Experts say Nevada is among the states most likely to legalize marijuana in the near future, and expect to see a major push to get it on the ballots (and more than likely approved) in 2016.
So in the spirit of getting ready for the growing field (this time, pun intended!) of marijuana real estate, we will be reaching out to contractors and identifying areas within the Las Vegas Valley that would be suitable for converting homes when the time comes. (Can you imagine owning a grow home in Spanish Trails next to the Sultan of Brunei? Or maybe you could get a place in Anthem Country Club and Chris Angel would drop by on his way home for a quick smoke!) We have also claimed the domain name "www.lasvegasmarijuanarealestate.com."
Now all we need is a cool slogan to match the Colorado one. Please feel free to write in your suggestions or comments!
