Every year in March, Prudential Americana hosts a huge awards ceremony blowout to honor the outstanding agents in the company. There is a lavish breakfast, the mimosas flow freely, and our affiliated Home Benefits vendors display their wares and have the agents draw for prizes ranging from gift cards to rounds of golf.

But today when we entered the ballroom at the Encore, instead of “Pru Blue,” the entire ballroom was decorated in shades of burgundy and cream. And Mark Stark, owner of our company, made the much anticipated announcement official: as of April 29th, we will become part of the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices family owned by Warren Buffet!

Our sales executives, even the old-timers that have been with Prudential since the beginning, all celebrated the news quite enthusiastically. I have talked personally with a lot of agents around the country that have already switched to the Berkshire Hathaway name. Every single agent has said that the company is truly amazing, and that they are very proud to be associated with the Berkshire Hathaway name. (There IS a certain cachet in being part of a company that is recognized as THE most respected brand in the world, ahead of companies like Apple, Google, Walt Disney, Coca Cola and MacDonalds.)

Our Prudential Americana Group franchise is currently the fourth largest in the country, and two of our offices (including our own Green Valley office) are among the top ten offices in the country. Once the transition is formalized, our company name will officially become Berkshire Hathaway Home Services-Nevada Properties.

And eventually there will be no more Prudential real estate offices at all, as the real estate division was sold off from the Prudential parent company in December of 2011 to Brookfield Residential Property Services. Though it is up to the individual real estate franchise owners if they want to be a part of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, with the great reputation the company has established, my guess is that most, if not all, will be more than delighted to make the change.

So while we say a bittersweet fond farewell to the Prudential name and all the great years we have had with the company, we are truly excited by the opportunities Berkshire Hathaway is opening up for us!
