The Las Vegas High Roller, a 550 foot high observation wheel, is now officially open to the public! More than 100 feet taller than the Eye in London on the banks of the Thames River, the High Roller has 28 cars that can hold up to 40 people comfortably (including room to walk around) for a thrilling half hour ride and multi-million dollar panoramic view of the world famous Strip.
The High Roller is actually the centerpiece of the new Linq outdoor pedestrian mall, located between the Flamingo Hotel and the newly revamped Quad Hotel (formerly the Imperial Palace) at the center of the Strip. While portions of the Linq are still under construction, many of the restaurants, shops and venues are already open, including the Brooklyn Bowl, a combination bowling alley, restaurant and concert theater that can hold up to 2,000.
The High Roller cabins are all air conditioned, and you can purchase a drink at the wheelhouse before boarding for a leisurely whirl on the world’s largest Ferris wheel. These space age cabins have been hand-crafted from Italian glass, and offer 360 degree views while you float in an eerie serenity high above the city.
During construction, the High Roller created 3,000 jobs in Las Vegas, including 1500 permanent positions. Caesars expects to have between 4 to 5 million partying riders on the High Roller within the first year of operation.
"If they choose to charter a private cabin, we can roll a bar on there for them and have full-service," said Eric Eberhart, general manager. And what a perfect place for a small marriage ceremony with your favorite Elvis presiding as justice of the peace and sealing the deal with a rousing rendition of “Viva Las Vegas!” (My personal favorite Elvises come from the Graceland Wedding Chapel.)
Tickets are on sale for $24.95 during the day and $34.95 for the evenings when the Strip comes to vibrant life. There are also flex, express pass, and multi-day passes available that will range from $44.95 to $59.95.
Don’t forget to check out properties around the Las Vegas Valley while you are up there! You might just spot the neighborhood of your dreams from the air.
So now almost anyone can be a Las Vegas High Roller. Unless, of course, you are afraid of heights.
