One of the things I love most about calling Las Vegas home is the wide variety of entertainment we have access to, especially some of the “small” shows that few tourists ever notice as they scan box office lists sprinkled with international celebrities. There are some surprising gems in the smaller lounge type showrooms that are pure Vintage Vegas, and, while they may not have the “WOW” factor of the big extravaganzas, they are sure to have you smiling and dancing on your way out the door.
One such show is “Forever Doo Wop” in the Riviera Hotel’s Bistro Lounge. “Doo Wop” is exactly what it sounds like: a lively rendition of classic American favorites from the 50’s and 60’s that will make your eyes light up as you sing along under your breath and take a fond trip down memory lane.
But this isn't just any doo wop group. The eight person cast includes members of The Coasters, The Platters, The Drifters and The Marvelettes, including the legendary Early Clover and Grammy award-winning singer Jerome Jackson. The harmonies (and what is doo wop without the harmonies!) are terrific, and all of these seasoned performers let their mischievous personalities shine through during the show.
The performance was fun and funny, it was entertaining, it was nostalgic and it was quick-paced. A happy recipe for a great night out on the town in Vegas. We will definitely go back to see “Forever Doo Wop” again.
** A helpful hint, if you are thinking of buying a home in Las Vegas, or if you already live here, think about joining HouseSeats. If you are able to see shows on the spur of the moment, the nominal membership fee will save you boatloads of money!
